Excessive pressure (>3.5 N/cm): Deforms rubber, increases motor load, overheats, and may scratch glass (especially dry). Also accelerates rubber wear.

Insufficient pressure (<1.0 N/cm): Leaves water streaks, lifts at high speed (judder), and fails to break ice in winter.
DIY measurement method:
Use a spring scale or digital force gauge – pull vertically upward at the center of the arm (at the blade contact point) and record the force just as the rubber begins to lift off the glass.
Divide this force (in kg) by the effective wiping length (in cm) to get linear pressure (N/cm).
Standard range: 1.8–2.8 N/cm (varies by model – check service manual). If deviation >15%, replace the arm spring or the entire arm assembly.
